on Teaching

Just had a reminder that teaching is a strange, bi-polar activity...you have a group of students who are bouncing off the walls, you set them a task and hope for the best...and then against all expectations, you receive some quite wonderful assignments. It's just happened to my daughter who is a teacher who works in east London. The poems that she's received are full of vulnerability, hope and resilience in the face of demanding family and community circumstances. They moved me to tears. Three cheers for teaching and a million for these wonderful young people.
